Christine Brown has never held back when it comes to her truth, and now she’s offering a raw and emotional look at the breakdown of her marriage to Kody Brown. If you’ve followed Sister Wives, you already know Christine’s journey has been one of strength, reflection, and transformation. In a teaser clip for the June 8 episode of Sister Wives: One on One, Christine pulls back the curtain on one of the most painful aspects of her former relationship—revealing that their physical connection lacked emotional intimacy and eventually faded into nothing at all.
The Early Days Of Laughter Turned To Distance
At 53 years old, Christine is no longer afraid to say how she really felt during her marriage. In her own words, “For a long time, it was just fun and it was just a blast. You know, we just had a lot of good times.” Those early years of shared laughter and connection seemed promising. But as the years passed and Kody legally married his fourth wife, Robyn, in 2014, the emotional gap between them only widened. “When he married Robyn, that’s where I was like, ‘Oh, there definitely is something missing here.’ But at that point… it was already so almost over anyway.”
Sex Became Empty And Emotionless
That feeling of being pushed aside left a mark. Christine went on to describe how their once passionate sex life shifted. “But it wasn’t a real true intimacy,” she said, admitting that Kody never really met her emotional, romantic, physical, or financial needs during their time together. She described herself as becoming more independent during their marriage, and eventually, their intimate moments began to feel forced and emotionless. “Sex became just an act,” she revealed, with “no real emotion behind it or anything.”
Using Each Other To Fill A Void
Looking back, Christine acknowledged that they both may have been using each other to meet physical needs, rather than to express love or emotional connection. “Well, ‘used’ is a word, but maybe he felt used too. Like maybe we would just use each other. It didn’t mean anything,” she said. As time passed, apathy set in. “Maybe, like. I guess [we] kinda have to. Maybe there was just a need, just a physical need that was met.” It’s an honest admission, and one that resonates with anyone who has ever felt unseen in a relationship.
The Moment She Knew It Was Over
Host Sukanya Krishnan offered a painful observation, calling the couple’s sex life a “marital obligation.” Christine agreed. “Probably for both of us. Yeah. Sad,” she responded. And the truth got even more heartbreaking. “The sex was never … God, it was just so broken,” Christine admitted. “We didn’t talk about it.” That silence only added to the distance between them. With such little communication, intimacy quickly faded. “We both knew there was something lacking and something missing,” she said. “And when you have sex five times in a year, you realize there’s a problem.”
Saying Goodbye To A Love That Faded
That realization pushed Christine to finally confront the truth. She described one final conversation that confirmed what she already felt. “So we had one conversation on intimacy, and it was like, are we going to have any kind of intimacy, sex in our marriage? And he was like, no.” After hearing that, she made a decision. “And so the next time you come over, I’m like, you’re done. You’re not staying here anymore. I don’t want you in my bed. We’re done.”
A New Beginning And An Empowered Path Forward
Christine was the first of Kody’s four wives to officially leave him. Their spiritual divorce took place in November 2021. And it didn’t take long for her to find happiness again. More than a year later, she began dating David Woolley. The couple quickly fell in love, and they tied the knot in October 2023. Her story of finding peace after years of emotional neglect inspired others to reconsider their own relationships.
Leading The Way For The Other Wives
Christine’s decision to leave marked a significant shift in the Brown family dynamic. Janelle Brown followed in December 2022, and Meri Brown eventually confirmed her own separation from Kody in January 2023. As the foundation of Kody’s polygamous family began to crumble, Christine’s bold move became a symbol of empowerment. She showed that love should never come at the cost of self-worth or emotional fulfillment.
Christine’s Honesty Sparks A Larger Conversation
By sharing her story so openly, Christine continues to challenge the traditional narratives surrounding relationships. She proves that it’s never too late to walk away from something that no longer serves you, even when it’s difficult. Her honesty offers hope to anyone who feels trapped in a relationship without true connection.
